ABOUT
Kai Clements (aka Kai & Sunny) is a UK-based artist whose work explores movement, rhythm and spatial perception through intricate compositions of flowing lines and form. He graduated with First Class Honours before exhibiting internationally for over two decades.
Since 2016, Clements has focused on developing a distinctive body of acrylic paintings on linen, characterised by intricate compositions of flowing lines, shifting forms and a strong sense of movement. Drawing inspiration from the rhythms of the natural world and the unseen forces that shape our environment, his work investigates the relationship between order and unpredictability, precision and spontaneity. A lifelong engagement with surf and skateboarding culture has also influenced his visual language, reinforcing his fascination with movement, rhythm and flow.
Alongside his studio practice, the Kai & Sunny name has become recognised for collaboration across art, design and culture. Long-standing creative partnerships with artists including Shepard Fairey and D*Face, together with projects spanning multiple disciplines, have continually informed and expanded Clements’ approach to making work.
Kai & Sunny has exhibited internationally, with exhibitions and projects across New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Hong Kong, Paris and London. The work has been presented at Haunch of Venison and is included in the Victoria and Albert Museum Print Archive Collection.
“I am fascinated by the power of the natural world and the invisible forces that shape our experience of it. My work explores rhythms, energies and frequencies that exist beneath the surface of what we see. Lines push and pull against one another, suspended between tension and release, while others move freely through the composition. Through colour, light and movement, I seek to create immersive works that invite discovery and connection.” — Kai Clements
